What is the Shadow? 

Now more than ever we are called to heal and individuate. According to Carl Jung, Shadow is a term used to describe the repressed or denied part of the Self relegated to the unconscious. Perhaps as a child, we were shamed for crying, or expressing anger, so we learned early on to repress those aspects of our Self.  The intolerated feeling gets banished into Shadow, like old family gems stuffed in a trunk in the basement. Then Ego takes over in its opposite form; (i.e.from helplessness to overcompetence) to ensure Child will be accepted & loved.

What is Shadow Work? When we relate to our Shadow as a Great Mystery to unravel, not a problem to be solved or illness to be cured, we can then open to its gifts.  This can be the most sacred soul work. Learning to identify the bodily, relational and emotional cues of the shadowy personas and integrate them is a giant leap towards Self reconciliation and a profound form of healing. 

What Happens when we Neglect Shadow?

When Shadow is neglected we can feel shut down, depressed, anxious, alienated and deeply flawed.

Shadow, if left unattended, can become pervasive and emerge in self-sabotaging, uncontrollable behaviours like addiction, hatred and rage.

What are the benefits of Shadow Work? 

When roots of our own self-sabotaging behaviours are unearthed with self-compassion, we can heal and transform deeply-embedded feelings of shame and self-hatred.  When Shadow is invited into our lives and hearts, passion is reawakened and energy freed to live an authentic life.  Latent gifts & family treasures are dusted off and brought into the light of day.
